Proctoring & lockdown

Examo verifies who is taking the exam, enforces each exam's rules on the student's computer, and records what happens. Then it hands the evidence to a person.

Proctoring modes

Live, recorded and automated, in any combination

Live

Live proctoring

The proctor views each student's camera and screen streams during the exam and can step in to assist.

Recorded

Continuous recording

Video and audio of the student, every connected screen (multi-monitor included), and keyboard and mouse interactions, for the whole exam.

Automated

Risk event detection

Unauthorized applications, websites and AI tools, loss of focus on the exam window, and window or screen changes, each timestamped.

Recording that survives a bad connection

Recordings are sent in one-minute segments during the exam. If the connection is weak or drops, the exam and the recording carry on locally and synchronize automatically, by the end of the exam or afterwards. No continuous high-speed connection is required.

Identity & access

The right person, in the right exam

Identity is confirmed by people, using accounts your institution already manages. No face is ever turned into a template.

Microsoft 365 sign-in

Students sign in with their institutional Microsoft 365 account. Single sign-on is mandatory, and there is no new account to create.

Waiting room

The proctor or teacher validates attendance before launching the exam, with workstations and students pre-validated.

Visual confirmation

For remote exams, the proctor confirms the student's identity from the camera feed, without automated facial recognition.

One-time access code

If sign-in fails, the proctor can generate a unique access code so the student can still start on time.

A locked exam window: web browsers, chat and AI tools blocked; calculator, assistive technology and permitted documents allowed

Lockdown

A controlled exam environment

Examo locks down the exam environment, applications and services included, and watches the processes running on the computer.

  • BlockingUnauthorized websites, applications, browser extensions and AI tools are blocked.
  • Process monitoringAI tools, browsers, sites, applications, plug-ins and executables running on the computer are watched for the whole exam.
  • DetectionOpening an unauthorized application or browser, losing focus on the exam window, and changing window or screen are all detected.
  • AI tools treated like any other resourceAI websites (ChatGPT, Copilot, Gemini and others), installed AI applications and extensions are blocked by default, and can be allowed when the teacher permits them.

Per-exam rules

Each exam gets the rules its instructions call for

An open-book exam, a lab with a spreadsheet, a closed essay: the same tool adapts to each one.

What can be set per exam or per security profile
SettingWhat it controls
Exam toolMoodle quiz or exam, Word, Excel or PDF document, or the URL of an external exam application.
TimingAccess window, duration and buffer period; individual time extensions by the proctor.
CapturesCamera, microphone, screen, and keyboard and mouse, each enabled or disabled.
Permitted resourcesApplications, websites, documents and, when allowed, AI tools that stay available during the exam.
Security profilesReady-to-use profiles, rules set centrally by the institution, and reusable templates.
AccommodationsPer student: extra time, breaks, special conditions and authorized tools, assistive technology included.
Post-exam review: the recording, a timestamped event timeline, a reviewer's decision and a spreadsheet export

Incidents

Documented, then reviewed by a person

Examo detects and logs. People decide. Every incident is submitted to the teacher's judgement, with the evidence attached.

  • Timestamped evidenceEach detection lands on the exam's event timeline and is reported to the teacher with its time-coded proof.
  • AlertsA notification goes out when something is detected, so a proctor can react during the exam.
  • Complete reportsAn Excel report of events and alerts, accompanied by the matching video and audio recordings.
  • No automatic decisionNo suspicion score, no automatic sanction. The decision always belongs to a person.

No artificial intelligence

What Examo never does

Examo contains no feature based on artificial intelligence. There is nothing to audit, tune or switch off, because it isn't there.

  • No facial recognition. No facial template is created, and the video is never analyzed biometrically.
  • No automated behaviour analysis. Eye movements, gestures and sounds are not scored by an algorithm.
  • No biometric data. Nothing collected by Examo is biometric.
  • No automatic sanction. Every detection is submitted to human review.
  • No AI training on your data. Recordings and logs are never used to train AI models or shared with third parties.
